On a cold November evening Halsall took on MJ Stevens at Go Karing at Exeter’s Raceworld, A great evening was had by all who attended.

MJ Stevens are recruiting across all disciplines. With the lead up to Christmas already upon us, we are seeing a vast increase in work on sites from Bristol to Cornwall.

On Friday 7th October we celebrated our 40th Year in Business. We held the celebration at Sandy Park, home of the Exeter Chiefs. The event was attended by over 200 staff, colleagues, clients, suppliers and friends of the business.

It was announced during the evening Mike Stevens would be retiring. Louis Greenaway, former Commercial Manager, will become the new Managing Director having bought the business in a MBO.

Both Mike and Louis talked fondly of the past 40 years and looked forward to the years to come. Both thanked staff, clients and suppliers for the support given to the business.

Bovey Castle hosted the 30th M J Stevens Golf Day on 9th September, with a day that started gloomy and with drizzle in the air during brunch, soon cleared when 36 golfers drove the buggies to the starting tees with a burst of sunshine for the shot-gun start.

A blowy but sunny day lead to some difficult and calculated golf with a few trick shots being played and some canny puts.

A fun and excellent day was had by all players and a fabulous eveing meal and drinks followed.

The team event was won by Golf Day regulars CG Fry and Sons. In the individual competition, The 30th Winner of the MJ Stevens Golf Day was Phil Coombes. Phil was delighted to have won the day on what he called a ‘fabulous course’ on a ‘most enjoyable day’. He was especially happy to be the last of the frontiers.

Today we welcome George, who joins us as our Junior Surveyor. George will be working in our decorating and tiling division pricing all work and liasing with our site teams.

These are exciting times, with continued planned expansion and growth within the business. Nearing our 40th Year in business, we look forward to many more.

Continuing on from a busy summer, we have been awarded the drylining, decroating and ceramic tiling on two sites Taunton. One at the ever expanding Monkton Heathfield for Persimmon Homes along with the new site, Abbeyvale in Bishops Hull, also for the Persimmon Group.This is a location we have been working in for a long time and hold a good, strong pool of local labour.

A strong start to the second start to the second half of year, being awarded the carpentry at Cullompton for David Wilson, Bristol office. This is a continuation of our expansion with new carpenters joining us weekly. In addtion to this we have won the carpentry and drylining contract at Brixton, Plymouth for David Wilson, Exeter office.

April has started well with an influx of new orders, an additonal phase for our current site at Yeovil for Persimmon homes, drylining and painting, as well as a multi-trade contract for Wainhomes at the Goodleigh Rise Development in Barnstaple. This is a continuation of our expantion in the North Devon area. Along side this, we have also been awarded the new parcel at Shorelands, Bude for Bovis Homes.

With the demand ever growing for good, quality contractors over the South West, we have been asked to undertake on more work, expanding into Weston-Super-Mare.
