Health & Safety Audit Launch

This month we see our tech-savvy team launch a new Health & Safety audit app which will be rolled out across the company. The audit app, similar to that our of quality check audit, will be further reporting and tightening of both health & safety but also welfare on the sites. These will be carried out by our Health & Safety Director and Manager quarterly.

This new innovative app will help to keep a simple but effective check on our operatives, plant and tools regularly in an effective and efficient manner. These reports will then be looked over, issues highlighted and actioned in our Company Health, Safety and Welfare meetings. These reports are instantly stored to our system for anyone in the company to see and share with those associated to the site.

Carpentry Business Booms!

A new month, a new site start for our Carpentry division. This month we see Gould Homes’ new site in Dawlish added to our order book. Since the recruitment of Liam as our Carpentry Manager we have seen an upward trend of new sites added month on month. Liam comments ‘It’s great to see, this is fantastic. The whole business is fully behind me in growing this part of the company and I am really proud of the work from the carpenters on site, particularly their positive reaction to our in-house site audits but also the part the office team play in the surveying and material ordering.’

Gould Homes are building 18 new homes in Dawlish. We are really looking forward to working with a new client in an area we have built hundreds of houses in the past and adding our carpentry touch to them.

MJS host Thank you BBQ for Site Trades

On Thursday afternoon MJS hosted a ‘Thank You BBQ’ for our site trades for all the extra hours and work that have gone into achieving plots for June (half year and year end completions for the National house builders). The event was organised by Matt our decorating and tiling supervisor, it was attended by our carpenters, dryliners, painters, tilers and apprentices from site as well as our management and senior management team. Thank you to everyone for the continued hard work and let’s push on for the next 6 months.

Carpentry Division Starts at Teign View

Our carpentry team has put the first sets of joists on our new site for Tilia Homes at Teign View in Kingsteignton. The MJS team, headed up by Liam, has made swift and efficient progress on the latest job for us with a gang of local carpenters who have worked for MJS for a number of years. Overall the scheme comprises of 43 three, four and five bedroom well-built new homes in the heart of Devon. We are very much looking forward to building here and growing with Tilia as they look to become one of the leading house builders in the UK.

Painting & Tiling Division Win New Site

Our well established painting and tiling department have been awarded a new contract with Allison Homes, formerly Larkfleet in Winkleigh, Devon. This is a site of 36 new homes in the heart of Devon, these will be built to a high standard and provide good, continuous work for both our decorating and tiling labour pools.

We have worked with the company for over 5 years now and continue to be awarded new sites year on year. We are really excited to start work on this new development.

New Carpentry Manager Starts

We have recently welcomed Liam to MJS as our new Carpentry Contracts Manager. Liam will be responsible for overseeing our carpentry division, it’s apprentices and new work, with us recently winning a number of new sites there has never been a better time to join our team. Liam started his construction career here as an apprentice carpenter some ten years ago and since went on to win numerous quality and customer care awards as a site manager.

We have also bolstered our carpentry ranks with both new and returning carpenters to the business, as well as continuing to take on new apprentices. Two of our new sites are in Torbay and the other two new sites are in the wider Exeter area. These will run along side our current long-term sites in Honiton and Liskeard. We are delighted to have Liam onboard and very much look forward to growing this part of the business.

“I am really excited to be rejoining MJS, having continued to work with them for my whole career, in a number of different roles, I know their ethos and commitment to customer service and quality matches with myself perfectly. The changes under Louis’ ownership have been really impressive, particularly the new quality control system that I have been involved with implementing.” Liam comments.

Apprentices lend a hand in new office building

With it being National Apprentice Week what better opportunity than to use our stars of the future to help construct our new sister office. Apprentices have played a role in our business since day 1 but now more than ever they are the building blocks of the company’s future. We have more apprentices within the business than ever before, across all of our trades.

This week, two of our carpentry apprentices got stuck in fitting new doors and creating an office space in our sister building. Overseen by our Operations Director, Steve Clewer, who himself was a former carpentry apprentice.

Steve said of the two lads ‘It’s great to see them working together as a team, and also nice to see them working at our HQ, something they can be proud of and see time and time again in the future when they visit the office for meetings and to collect new tools’.

‘Outstanding’ Customer Care Review

What a way to start the year, our customer care team has received an ‘Outstanding’ review by Janet, a homeowner in Somerset. ‘His attention to detail was outstanding and nothing was too much trouble.  His work was first rate and I cannot recommend him highly enough.  He is a great asset to your company!’ Well done to Glenn and thank you to all of our customer care team for all your hard work.
